Great Beginning Routines for Competitive Gymnastics Programs

Competitive gymnastics programs aren’t for the faint of heart. They require dedicated individuals who are able to stick to their routines no matter what. Toronto Aspirals has compiled a list of basic routines that will help you develop all around as a gymnast and master your competitive gymnastics programs.

Basic Competitive Gymnastics Routines

Floor Routine

For any intermediate level individual in competitive gymnastics programs, one of the best routines to hone your skills is the basic floor routine. In competitive gymnastics, a gymnast is expected to practice forward rolls, backward rolls, cartwheels, and other acrobatic displays. Practicing these basic abilities will help you develop a strong core.

The Vault

We’ve all seen it in the Olympics. Competitive gymnastics works with the vault, but it takes years of practice, and gymnasts must learn how to properly jump on the springboard.  Once they have mastered that, they can try their hand at adding aerial maneuvers. Tying all of these aspects together will help a gymnast work on their timing and overall athletic ability.

Balance Beam

This is the staple of any competitive gymnastics program. The balance beam will develop a gymnast’s sense of balance and timing. Individuals can work on jump to front support mounts, tuck sit, roll to candlestick holds, and rises.

Young male gymnasts love the pommel. It is seen as a test of strength and athletic ability. When working with a pommel in competitive gymnastics, a gymnast should work on quarter-circle jumps, single circles, rising half-circles, and quarter-turns. The pommel stimulates the development of the core and arms.
